Operational Management Standards, OM
Below is the link to the reviewed/revised/reformatted standards for what, in the current Accreditation Process Guide, are the Operational Management Standards (OM).
What’s Different?
- Re-organization of standards into general topic areas (ex: all standards that deal with “Risk Management and Prevention” are together).
- OM-2 Firearms Control: In order to eliminate a potential double jeopardy, we are only asking about the locking of firearms in this standard and not also in PD. The language previously used in the PD standard is being used in OM-2.
- OM-9 Insurance Coverage: Changed terms “Fire and extended risk” to “Property coverage on buildings” per the recommendation of the insurance industry. Added “Business Personal Property” (covers furniture, merchandise, etc. used/owned by the business even if the building is not owned).
What’s Gone?
- OM-1 Review of Foundational Practices: Will be included in additional resource information.
- OM-5 Assessment of Standards Compliance: Will be included in resource information.
- OM-11 Smoking Policies.
- OM-12 Staff Emergency Training: Now included in what is currently numbered OM-X, Emergency Procedures and Rehearsal.
Please note: Once all revisions/reformatting have been completed, all standards will be assigned the appropriate number.

Om 10 (formerly 14)
This standard has been and is now entitled "Missing Person Procedures. However the wording in the first sentence, now says "...procedures for lost, missing or runaway campers..." I suggest this should read, "lost, missing or runaway persons" instead which is what the 2006 standards says.
Campers are not the only ones who may go missing.
OM-15; User agreement
Between this and OM-14 we're forcing an agreement into being a mult-page contract. Can't this be included in a User Group Policies & Procedures handbook/document that is referenced within the Agreement, signed but still separate?
OM-12; public area
I think there should be a provision added concerning camps that are always in this situation; those without a set base/site.
OM-7; security
"periodic review of security concerns" seems very vague; what creates a concern? Perhaps this should be a provision under OM-5.
OM-6; firearms
I really like the changes clarfying this standard.
OM-4
Have seen other exotic animals brought into camps by outside visitors for programming-would it be necessary to think in those terms??
Adequate Coverage
Concerned about using the terminology of "adequate coverage" seems vague and not sure if it is relavant stated in that format. What is adequate coverage???
