Local Council of Leaders
Gail Tumidajewicz- LCOL Chair
Gail has a degree in youth programming/camp management from UWSP, has worked in camping for 30 years in not-for-profits camps from counselor to Executive Director, and is recently retired but still involved with camping.
"I believe that every child should have the opportunity to attend camp! It is the place where they can discover themselves and gain all the skills to become productive, valuable adults." -Gail
Duane Hanson- Finance Liason
Pastor Duane Hanson is the executive director of Bethel Horizons, a camp and retreat center located near Dodgeville,WI. Duane has been director of Bethel Horizons since its inception in 1969. He is also an associate pastor at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison,WI. In conjunction with camp and church, Duane has been leading trips to East Central Europe since 1985. He has served as chair of the ACA Wisconsin Section and also chair of ACA Mid States. Nationally he has served on the nominating committee and now serves as the ELCA Lutheran representative to the ACA RAC board. Now serving on the Wisconsin Council of Leaders group, he oversees the financial transactions and is concerned that the ACA professionals in Wisconsin continue to see great value in being a member of ACA.
Andrea Yanacheck- Awrads & Mini Camp Job Fairs
Andrea has worked in camping for over eleven years. Most of her professional career has been as the Camp Director for Alice Chester Resident Camp with Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast. Currently she oversees the council’s Volunteer-Led Day Camps which welcomes nearly 4000 girls and 1000 adult volunteers each summer. She has been on the Local Council of Leaders since 2008 overseeing the mini fairs and awards for Wisconsin. Being a Standards Visitor is one of her favorite parts of summer because it’s a smart way to find brilliant ideas from other camps. Most campers call her by her camp nickname Velma. So when you find her on Facebook, look for Velma Yanacheck.
Karen Peck Katz- Membership
Karen Peck Katz has been a member of ACA since 1991. Served as the Wisconsin Standards Accreditation Chair for 15 years. Understanding how important organized camping is, Karen co-founded the scholarship program CAMPS FOR KIDS, enabling a first-time resident camp experiences for children from families with limited financial resources. To date CFK has sent over 4,200 children to ACA accredited camps through out the state of Wisconsin. Currently, Karen is a member of the Wisconsin Local Council of Leaders and is a standards instructor and visitor
