DESCRIPTION AND LEARNER OUTCOMES:
A recent study indicates that the current generation of children may have shorter life expectancies than their parents for the first time in over two centuries. The reason is largely attributed to the fact that the number of obese children has DOUBLED since 1980. Overweight and obesity is due to an energy imbalance between calories consumed and energy expended. Although camps are not going to solve the problems of obesity, they can contribute to the solutions by encouraging children to move more and eat healthy foods at camp. Many ideas exist for addressing these issues. Through involvement In this webinar, participants will be able to explain the pervasiveness of childhood overweight and obesity issues, learn three new activities for helping campers to be more active while at camp, and gain three new approaches to encouraging children to eat well while at camp.
