Talking Transgender at Camp
PRESENTER: Nick Teich, LCSW
COST : ACA members $20; Nonmembers $40
DESCRIPTION AND LEARNING OUTCOMES:
This session will explore the emerging area of transgender campers and explore how they can fit into traditional resident camps. Many directors shy away from taking transgender campers, but this doesn’t have to be the case. This session will give some tools, tips, and basic education that will enable directors and other staff to learn about options to work with transgender campers and their families. There will be time for questions.
Through this webinar participants will learn:
- how transgender youth (current and prospective campers) can be integrated into traditional camp environments,
- more about transgender youth development and its relation to the camp context,
- how to make informed decisions about working with families of trans youth and families of other campers who might have concernst.
