COST: ACA members $20; Nonmembers $40

DESCRIPTION AND LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Have you ever had an incident on a camp trip that made you shake your head and say, "What was that trip leader thinking?"  Research shows that many of our young staff members need additional training and modeling in judgment because they lack complete development in the pre-frontal cortex region of the brain. In this session, we will guide you through the process of designing a trip leader training that demonstrates and supports your camp's "best practices" while guiding new (and experienced) trip leaders through scenarios that will support good judgment, appropriate resource use and critical thinking skills.

Through this webinar, participants will:

  1. Learn hands-on strategies and techniques they can corporate when designing trip leader training programs.
  2. Practice, create and debrief judgment scenarios that engage and educate trip leaders about the importance of "good judgment."
  3. Understand how to design a complex, real-life trip scenario for their camp that will engage their trip leaders' critical thinking skills and lead to more thoughtful, better led trips during the summer.
