Hoosier Outdoor Experience

If you aren’t familiar with Hoosier Outdoor Experience held at Fort Harrison State Park, Indianapolis from our previous years of participation as an Activity Provider, let me know and I can provide further details.

The nitty gritty is this- It’s a free event that attracts families not just from the Indy area but across the entire state and out of state- last year there were 23,000 participants. ACA Indiana set up as an Activity Provider and offers common camp activities for participants to try while the booth volunteers engage in conversation about the value of the camp experience, resources available from ACA (find a camp, etc.) AND volunteers can promote their camp. Volunteer needs are as follows:

  • Friday September 14: 4pm- approximately 6pm= set up
  • Saturday September 15: 8:00 am- 12:00 pm, 11:30 am- 3:30 pm, 3:00 pm- 6:30 pm
  • Sunday September 16: 8:00 am- 12:00 pm, 11:30 am- 3:30 pm, 3:00 pm- 6:30 pm

The activities we’ll be offering this year:

edible firebuilding, knots, god’s eyes, buddy bracelets (yarn friendship bracelets)

gimp lanyards for teens, nature scavenger hunt, games and smores.

To keep this event budget friendly we offer camps/organizations a bribe- yes, a bribe- provide food, craft and other supplies or loan equipment and we’ll put your name on our big banner as a “supporter”, put you on the website as such and make note in social media messages, etc.. ALMOST FREE MARKETING

In order to be on the banner, I need to know by tomorrow/Friday if you are able to provide any of the following:

Marshmallows * graham crackers * chocolate- for smores

pretzel sticks (kindling), Pretzel rods (fuel) * coconut (tinder) * red hots or similar “fire rocks”, Candy corns (fire flame)- for edible campfires

bottled water/sports drink, snacks- for volunteers

yarn * gimp * clips for lanyards * popsicle sticks-  for crafts

flagging tape, wax paper, sandwich bags (fold over fine)- misc suppplies

if you are able to loan any of the following:

Ropes for knot tying * balls/cones for games * marshmallow roasting sticks

Parachute, hula hoops and other sports equipment * water coolers (5 gal)

Tent or gazebo for Family Fun Zone- our space is approximately 10’x10’

NEW THIS YEAR- we have been approached by Radio Disney to be an activity provider in their Family Fun Zone on Sunday, a space separate from our regular event space/booth. This is a fantastic opportunity/incentive for camps to provide volunteers and to provide supplies/loan equipment in order to have your camp name out there in front of the families attending the Family Fun Zone- drawn of course by the Radio Disney reputation.

AND, I need to know who is volunteering and when! Please complete the following and email: (You are welcome to send more than 1 volunteer for either the same shift or for different shifts) You will then be sent actual registration info, but I need your info first:
