NEW FORMS for ACA Members and Camps
The Association for Camp Nurses (ACN) and
the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
recently joined together to develop two
new medical forms for camps to use with
their camper population. One form is a
four-page camper health history; the second
form is a one-page medical recommendation
form to be completed by the physician.
These two forms used together are equivalent
to the old "Green Form" for
campers and will meet the current ACA Standards
for HW-2 and HW-6.
The ACN has also developed several additional
forms to be used as a template and/or a
sample for camps. These include: Health
History Form for Camp Staff, Medical Recommendation
for Camp Employee, Request for Additional
Information about Your Child’s Asthma,
Health History Form for Short-Term Campers
(three nights or less), Health and Emergency
Information for Adult Campers, and Exemption
for Immunization Request.
All of the above mentioned forms are available
as a free download for ACA members. Several
of these, as well as other forms may be
purchased in a convenient 100 pack through
the ACA
Bookstore.

Is Your Camp Being Visited in 2008?
If so, it is not too early to be reviewing
your written documentation, your hiring
policies, policies regarding staff and
camper possessions, etc. Also, make sure
someone who will be involved in the preparation
of your materials and on site the day of
the visits attends a Standards Course. More
than one person from a camp may attend
a Course for no charge. Please
make sure you have reviewed the revised Standards
and Interpretations (PDF).
Contact your local office for the dates
of a Standards Course in your area and
if you have additional questions.

Revised Standards Approved!
The National Standards Commission proposed slight changes to the ACA standards
to be effective for the 2008 season. Council of Delegate (COD) members
had the opportunity to discuss the potential revisions in early December with
a discussin board posting and two conference calls. The voting took place
in mid-December via the web. Below is the result of this vote (NOTE,
the COD votes on the actual Standard. Be watching for the interpretations and
additional resources to be available by the end of January 2008):
VOTE #1: Delete staff screening for user
group references throughout interpretation
of HR-4, and add user-group staff screening
references to Standard OM-19:
HR-4: Changes
occur in the first sentence of the first
paragraph AND in the Demonstration of
Compliance:
The
camp must implement established screening
policies for its own operation, and
advise leaders of user groups of appropriate
screening policies.
OM-19: Does the camp require the written
user-group agreement to specify:
ADD 6th bullet to read:
Recommendation to user group leaders of
need for appropriate screening policies
for all user group staff with responsibility
for or access to campers.
VOTE #2: Addresses bullet traps issue
which was suspended at the February 2007
COD meeting:
PD-23: Does the camp require the following
for all firearm activities:
ADD 4th bullet to read:
A plan for dealing with spent lead bullets
consistent with applicable local environmental
regulations.
VOTE #3: Addresses paintball
All references to paintball will be
removed from interpretations. Paintball
will be listed as one of the specialized
activities requiring protective equipment
(third bullet on page 186).
