Camp Director of
Camp El Tesoro De la Vida Receives Prestigious
President's
Volunteer Service Award
First
Lady Laura Bush presented the President's
Volunteer Service Award, on behalf of
President George W. Bush, to Denis
Cranford when Mrs. Bush arrived in
Fort Worth, Texas, on Tuesday, September
16, 2008. Cranford is a volunteer
with Camp Fire USA First Texas Council. To
thank them for making a difference in
the lives of others, President Bush honors
a local volunteer when he travels throughout
the United States. He has met with
more than 650 volunteers, like Cranford,
since March 2002.
As
a volunteer with Camp Fire USA First
Texas Council, Cranford has served
for fifteen years as the camp director
for Camp El Tesoro de la Vida, a weeklong
camp for children who are dealing with
the passing of a loved one. During
his tenure as a volunteer, more
than 1,500 grieving children have had
the opportunity to attend Camp
de la Vida.

Pine Forest Camp Honored by EPA for Energy
Savings
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
has selected Pine Forest Camp of Greeley,
Pennsylvania, to receive the 2008 Energy
Star Award for Small Businesses for cutting
utility costs significantly and making
energy efficiency improvements that help
make our nation's air cleaner.
To get advice, Pine Forest Camp contacted
the Environmental Management Assistance Program
(EMAP) of the Pennsylvania Small Business
Development Centers. As a result of its audit,
in the 2007 camping season Pine Forest started
with efficiency improvements in lighting,
water heating, pool heating, and food refrigeration.
