Promote the Gift of Camp
The Gift
of Camp is one of the most precious
gifts a child can receive. No, it’s
not a gadget or a gizmo — it’s
not about instant gratification. It’s
more about how a child’s life is
positively affected and changed forever
by the camp experience.
As camp professionals, you get it. You
understand the developmental benefits of
camp. You know that over ninety percent
of campers say they feel better about themselves
because of camp. You get it because you
see it first-hand. It’s our job to
help the rest of the world get it too.
Our national PR plan includes a major
push for promoting the Gift
of Camp. In addition to a media tip
sheet, we are running an advertorial in
USA Today, making phone calls, and submitting
articles to local parent and family magazines.
ACA’s parent
Web site now includes an informational
page that includes a downloadable and printable
gift certificate for the Gift
of Camp.
How can you help? Simply by promoting
the gift of camp within your existing channels
of communication, you can make a huge impact.
Place a link to the Gift
of Camp page on your Web site. Include
information on the gift of camp in your
next parent e-newsletter. Many of you have
developed relationships with your local
media — call them and ask them to
spread the word about the Gift
of Camp. Write a letter to the editor
of your local paper reminding parents about
the other gifts they could give this holiday
season.
By working together, we can make a bigger
impact — not just in the amount of
media coverage, but we can directly impact
the number of children who benefit from
the camp experience. In the end, that’s
all that matters.

ACA Needs You!
As
part of the national public relations
plan, we will be working to identify
new positive camp stories and new
resources for the media. In the last
year, ACA received over three hundred
media requests. We would like to
expand our media resource list to
include more camps and more voices
who can share with the media the
depth, breadth, and importance of
the camp experience. With your help,
ACA can influence print and broadcast
stories that appear throughout the
country. If you would like to join
the ACA Media Resource Team or if
you have any questions, please submit
our online form or contact Public
Relations at 765-349-3317.
