The American Medical Association has just put out NEW GUIDELINES for assessing and treating head injuries in children. This session will cover information camp directors' need to know to protect their campers and make informed decisions. (Back by popular demand!)

10:15-11:05 am      Mikal Zimmerman, Marcellus Shale Coalition - An Introduction to the Marcellus Industry; This educational session is designed to answer the many questions camp owners/directors have related to drilling in the Marcellus Shale. Ms. Zimmerman will discuss the energy, economics, and environmental aspects of responsible Marcellus development. 

11:15-am-12:05 pm     James Innes, CarrierClass Green Infrastructure - Green Power for Eco-Friendly Camps; Eco-friendly camps that wish to power their facilities with solar energy often find that the up-front expense of going green is sky-high. Government loans and foundation grants aren’t the only options for camps facing tight budget constraints. A ‘Solar Power Purchase Agreement’ could provide the eco-friendly camp with an on-site solar PV facility at little to no cost.

11:15 am-12:05 pm      Scott Arizala - The New Boss: Skills and Techniques for the Best Camp Leaders; The very best camp directors and leaders have both a predicable skill set and a wide variety of unique abilities and characteristics. The new boss is someone that knows how to indentify, grow and develop their skill set in the midst of the frenetic pace of camp. This session will outline 5 foundation skills and 5 advanced skills of great camp leaders, techniques for development and training, and the strategies to keep them in focus.

1:15-2:05 pm        Scott Arizala - Practical Leadership; There is a lot of good information about leadership.  However, there seems to be a shortage of practical strategies for becoming a better leader.  This session takes a look at three foundation skills of great camp leadership; communication, patience, and problem solving.  Learn how to develop yourself and those around you in applied, realistic, and functional ways.  What to do, how to do, and how to get better at it… be practical!

2:15-3:15 pm         Ellen Will, Director, The Outdoor School, Shaver's Creek Environmental Center - Do the Twist: Teaching Ecology with Classic Camp Games; Join us for an action-packed session where we'll put a twist on traditional camp games to teach ecological concepts. Delve into what makes the best games successful and learn how to incorporate Environmental Education into the fun without compromising your campers' interest and enthusiasm. Take home new ideas that will make an impact on your campers and staff alike!

3:30-4:30 pm       Mara Yacobi, MSW - Beyond Bullying; Breaking the Cycle of Cruelty and Aggression; Cyberbullying, teasing, bullying and social cruelty take many forms. From exclusion and gossiping to eye rolling and shoving, the ramifications of bullying reach far beyond the victims--all children are impacted. This interactive and engaging workshop will help camp professionals and counselors teach campers to stand up for themselves and others, as well as how to create a more welcoming inclusive environment.

This program has been granted educational endorsement by the American Camp Association's Educational Endorsement Review Committee. Educational endorsement means that the program has been reviewed by a qualified panel to verify the goals, learner outcomes, presenter qualifications, and evaluation requirements are relevant for this educational program. Continuing education credits (CECs) are available for this program. Participants completing this progam and requesting CECs must petition the appropriate certifying body regarding acceptance of these CECs.
