We Went to Camp, Shouldn’t You?
Celebrity Campers Share the Importance of the Camp Experience

Indianapolis, IN (May 4, 2009) – The American Camp Association® (ACA) is proud to announce the release of a public service announcement titled Because of Camp…™.  This PSA highlights celebrities including Emma Roberts, Hill Harper, Lisa Loeb, Kerri Strug, Michael DeLorenzo, Justin Chambers, Paul Adelstein, James Pickens, Blair Underwood, Sharon Lawrence, Frank Sesno, Glynn Turman, Ashlan Gorse, and Lisa Raye sharing how their lives have changed Because of Camp…™.

Because of Camp…™ illustrates what the camp community has known for almost 150 years – simply put, camp changes lives,”  said Peg L. Smith, ACA’s chief executive officer. “The benefits of camp extend further than just childhood development. Camp, and the experiences of camp, define us, even as adults. Camp has changed many lives, introduced people to new passions, and broadened horizons.”

Visit http://www.acacamps.org/becauseofcamp/ to view Because of Camp…™. To obtain a high-resolution, broadcast version of the PSA, contact Dawn Swindle at 765-349-3317 or dswindle@acacamps.org.

Each year, camp provides ten million children with the opportunity to connect with nature, to participate in human powered activities, and to benefit from personal and primary relationships.

Because of Camp…™  communicates the essentials gained from the camp experience, including developing lasting friendships, gaining self-esteem, learning to work as part of a team, and  developing critical life skills such as empathy and compassion.

Because of Camp...™ so much is possible.

ACA encourages the sharing this vital message with your audience. Please feel free on link to Web sites or social networking sites.

This PSA Campaign is made possible, in part, by generous funding from the Legacy Fund sponsored by the Association of Independent Camps and the Lilly Endowment Inc.
