KEEP KIDS READING EVERY DAY, ALL SUMMER

Latest News: Kids Read More Than 100 Million Minutes and Break the World Record for Summer Reading

Research shows, regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic level, or previous achievement, children who read four or more books over the summer fare better on reading-comprehension tests in the fall than their peers who read one or no books over the summer (Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk, 2004).

Scholastic is dedicated to stopping the “Summer Slide” — the learning or reading skill losses accumulated during the summer months — through its annual Scholastic Summer Challenge program.

This summer, Scholastic is excited to team up with the American Camp Association again in support of the Explore 30 literacy initiative, and together will help get kids reading more books.

Learn about ways Scholastic can help get your campers reading, including:

  • Scholastic’s Summer Challenge website, a free site for kids, parents and educators where kids can read books, log minutes and win great prizes.  Every minute logged helps set a new World Record for summer reading.
  • My Books Summer Reading Book Packs available for up to 60% off list prices – special for EXPLORE 30 camps.  These age-appropriate book packs are designed to help children improve literacy skills and interest in reading.
  • Age-Appropriate (PreK – 12) Resources available to help your campers beat the “summer slide” including books lists, reading logs, and certificates.
  • Plus, camps can enter to win the Scholastic ACA Summer Reading Sweepstakes! You can win 125 age-appropriate books for your campers.

Be sure to download the FREE Scholastic Reading Timer mobile App, where kids can time their reading, log their minutes and parents can find book picks and tips to keep kids reading.
