Fund Development Hints - Are you taking good care of your donors?
Not for profit agencies and camps rely heavily on the goodwill of donors to continue to meet their delivery objectives. It is time consuming and often expensive to continue to look for new donors. Taking care of your present donors will often ensure a long term relationship, and one in which the donor may increase his/her contributions.

  1. Acknowledge gifts promptly
Good fundraising procedures call for acknowledgment of a gift  within 48-72 hours. Use creativity in your acknowledgments - handwritten postcards from campers can make a long lasting impression.
  2. Acknowledge gifts correctly
Spell the donor's name correctly Be sure you know how the donor wants to be acknowledged - MS, Mr., Sue, etc.  Ensure anonymity if that is what the donor wants.
  3. Thank your donors often
Make sure donors know their gifts are appreciated - it also gives you a chance to keep their attention for future gifts. Use the "7x7x7" method of thanking donors seven times, in seven different ways, with seven different messages. Let donors know the great things you are doing with their money. Again consider using the words of campers. They can sometimes tell it better than you can!
