"Camp Works, " ACA, Northern California's Spring Conference

Come get "working" on summer 2013!  Join us for “Camp Works”, ACA, Northern California’s Spring Conference.  “Camp Works” will be held at Mt. Hermon Conference Center from May 17th to 19th and will feature a welcome by Bob Ditter, a variety of breakout sessions, skills trainings and many opportunities for networking.  The ACA Standards Course will be offered on Friday (May 17th) prior to the conference.

Conference Schedule

"Camp Works” kicks off with dinner on Friday evening followed by Bob Ditter’s welcome.  Attendees will enjoy program all day Saturday and on Sunday morning.  The conference ends following lunch on Sunday.    

Program Highlights

EPIC (Emerging Professionals in Camping) Track—Saturday and Sunday
CAMP  “STEP” with Bob Ditter
"Managing Child Behavior at Camp"

In addition to his welcome, Bob Ditter will be presenting CAMP “STEP” (Specific Training for Emerging Professionals).  This track is designed to ratchet up the child behavior management skill level of young directors and/or mid-level staff.  More.

Certification Track-- Saturday
USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification (formerly Basic).  Participants will learn to teach basic archery skills to beginners. The course covers range safety, range set-up, basic equipment setup and repair, and how to teach the basic steps of shooting. Participants who successfully complete the course will be certified for three years.

There is an additional fee of $100 for archery training and a separate registration is required.  Archery participants may register for archery only or archery and the conference. Archery participants interested in signing up for the conference need to email bthamert@acacamps.org for conference pricing and registration information.  To register, contact Betsy Thamert (bthamert@acacamps.org).  

Leadership Track-- Saturday and Sunday
The leadership track features a variety of sessions including:  Quality Assessment - Simple and Realistic, Putting Youth on the Path to Thriving, Conflict & Bullying, Staff Training Best Practices, Training your Staff to Supervise Others, and more.  

Program Track-- Saturday and Sunday
The program track includes a range of breakouts including Encouraging Staff Driven Program Activities, Unleashing the Wonder of Nature at Camp, Evening Program Roundtable, Camp Games Roundtable, and more.

ACA Standards Course

May 17, 2013
9:00 am – 4:00 p.m.

The ACA Standards Course will be offered immediately prior to "Camp Works."  Interested in ACA Accreditation and/or get a head start on 2014 preparations! ACA's Standards course serves as an introduction to ACA's Standards Program and helps participants prepare for accreditation visits. The course describes the purpose and value of standards and accreditation, and gives an explanation of how the process works and what resources and materials are available. The course offers specific discussion about the requirements of the standards, including: application of the core and specialized activity standards, mandatory standards, and written documentation requirements. There is no charge for this course. Please bring a lunch. A 2012 Accreditation Process Guide (APG) is needed for this course. Educational Endorsement

“Camp Works” has been endorsed by the American Camp Association.  Educational Endorsement means that the program has been reviewed by a qualified panel to verify the goals, learner outcomes, presenter qualifications, and evaluation requirements are relevant for this educational program. Participants may earn up to 8.75 continuing education credits (CECs) for this endorsed program. Participants completing this program and requesting CECs must petition the appropriate certifying body regarding acceptance of these CECs

Mount Hermon

Surrounded by stunning redwoods and meandering streams, the Mountain Hermon Conference Center is an ideal setting for “Camp Works.” Lodging is available in deluxe and standard rooms. Deluxe rooms are double occupancy and include a private bath, porch, towels and pre-made beds.  Standard rooms are double occupancy and include a private bath, towels and pre-made beds.  A limited number of single standard and deluxe rooms are available.  Learn more about Mount Hermon
