Camp 2 Grow was a leadership and environmental stewardship program developed by the American Camp Association® through funding from the Lilly Endowment Inc. from 2009 through 2011. Camp 2 Grow was designed to teach middle and high-school aged youth leadership knowledge and skills through day and resident camps. Camp 2 Grow provided youth with nature-based problem solving experience and taught them a framework for implementing environmental stewardship projects in their camps, homes, or communities.
Research into the impacts of the Camp2Grow program indicated that youth learned skills in independence, empowerment, and problem-solving- important 21st century learning skills to prepare youth for the future. Camp 2 Grow also taught youth how to become environmental stewards and strengthened campers' emotional connections with nature. See the 2010 Camp2Grow Impact Report [1]for more information.
The Camp2Grow program materials were translated into a new book titled, Leadership and Environmental Stewardship: A Curriculum for Camps and Other Youth Programs [2] (Garst & White, 2012).
