Indianapolis, IN (February 5, 2010) – Over 1,000 professionals will gather to celebrate the American Camp Association's (ACA's) 100th Anniversary and discuss how lives are changed Because of Camp…™ at ACA's National Conference in Denver, CO, February 16-19, 2010.
The annual conference, held at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center, will bring together some of the nation's top child and youth development experts for four education-packed days in over 100 workshops.
The Because of Camp…™ conference theme is a continuation of ACA's public service campaign that was launched in early May 2009. The next phase of the PSA campaign – outdoor advertising, including billboards, posters, and transit shelters – will be unveiled as part of a celebration luncheon for ACA's 100th Anniversary on Thursday, February 18.
"Because of Camp…™ celebrates how lives are forever changed by the camp experience. As an American tradition almost 150 years in the making, organized camp has provided millions of children, youth, and adults with independence, friendships, and a lifetime of memories. And, as ACA celebrates our 100th Anniversary, we recognize the efforts and dedication of our camp community throughout this rich history," said Peter Surgenor, ACA national president.
Keynote speakers at the conference will include:
- Mark Victor Hansen, co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series of books.
- Mawi Asgedom, author of five books that are used in thousands of classrooms across North America.
- Luis Benitez, one of the nation's foremost high-altitude mountaineers.
- Peg L. Smith, chief executive officer of the American Camp Association
