ACA Book Drive: Plant Books – Grow Minds
Dallas 2013
Giving back to our host city has become an annual tradition for ACA National Conference attendees and exhibitors.
The 2013 Conference Team has planned a community service project to benefit children and families in need in Dallas. Please plan to bring new or gently used children’s books and participate in the book drive, which will benefit the Children’s Medical Center and VMLC: Changing Lives Through Literacy.
Our goal is to donate 1,000 books. Books can be brought to the conference or shipped to a local address in advance. Whether you bring a single book or ship a case, your contribution will make an impact.
Fiction and non-fiction in English or Spanish will be welcomed, for ages toddler through young-adult readers. They have a particular need for Spanish books for all ages, from toddler books to young adult novels and non-fiction.

Children's Medical Center
Children's Medical Center [1] is private, not-for-profit, and is the seventh largest pediatric healthcare provider in the nation. As the only academic healthcare facility in North Texas dedicated exclusively to the comprehensive care of children from birth to age 18, Children's provides patient care ranging from simple eye exams to specialized treatment in areas such as heart disease, hematology-oncology and cystic fibrosis. In addition, Children's is a major pediatric kidney, liver, intestine, heart and bone marrow transplant center.

VMLC: Changing Lives Through Literacy
VMLC [2] is dedicated to improving English literacy levels among non-English speaking adults and their young children by providing programs in communication and life skills. We do so in the belief that the ability to understand, read, write and speak English contributes to independence, productivity and the overall well-being of the learners, their families and the greater community
VMLC provides free educational programs for approximately 1,000 adults and 200 preschool children who reside in two low-income, highly diverse areas in Dallas. VMLC relies on more than 200 weekly volunteers as teachers, and collaborates with other organizations to provide its students with the services they need to become permanently self-sufficient. VMLC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Let’s assist both organizations in their mission to help children and the local community by bringing books with you to Dallas or by shipping them in advance to the address below.
