Thank you to everyone who took time to review the draft version of the standards that were posted on ACA’s Web site for comment from mid-March through the end of May. We received some excellent feedback. All comments were compiled, reviewed by the National Standards Commission, and helped inform the final version of the standards. A few “key” changes made from the draft version include:
- The standard concerning “Playground Safety” is now included.
- The standard asking about “professional development” for the director now asks for an average of five hours of professional development per year.
- We have addressed bullying in the standard about behavior management and discipline.
At this time, ACA staff are making final edits to the document, which includes making sure the standards are accurately numbered (we fully anticipated there will be fewer actual standards and fewer scoreable items); the text is as clear, clean, and concise as possible; and all of the applicability statements are included.
This version of the standards will be released late September 2011 (this fall) and in effect for the 2012 camp season. Look for additional information in late summer and throughout the fall.
