Operational Management Resources
The purpose of these standards is to address general risk management and safety issues relevant to the camp operation and clientele served — not to duplicate safety regulations specific to program activities or transportation, which may be addressed in to other sections or by other rules or regulations.
The Operational Management section includes only those basic administrative practices intended to promote creating a positive, protective environment for campers, staff, and rental groups. These standards address practices related to emergencies, protection of participants, and other areas of risk management and strategic planning.
ACA camps range from complete day camp and multiple-week resident camp programs to camps that provide only a few support services to rental groups who lease their site. Therefore, administrative practices will vary widely depending on the type of camp seeking accreditation. These standards provide for the development of procedures in important areas such as risk management, but do so without attempting to dictate the content of those procedures to each unique site or program.
Many of the policies, procedures, and practices required by these standards will be implemented directly by the camp staff and may be provided to a rental group with a copy of their contract agreement or both.
