Camp Information Form
The “Camp Information Form” is a tool created to assist both the camp designee and the visitor. The front page includes significant information about the camp such as: Who to contact for the visit, the address of the camp, the Web site address, the mode of the camp, etc. The back page contains a list of specialized activities at the camp. The form is to be provided to the visitor to be used when the camp designee is contacted to set up the Camp Self-Assessment, the on-site visit, and to help determine what programs the camp offers (and will need to be scored). It can be a valuable tool in the educational process of the visit.
A Camp Self-Assessment is a required review of the written documentation for twenty pre-identified standards and must be completed prior to the start of staff training for the summer season. Some local offices might require an earlier completion date.
A Camp Self-Assessment review prior to the actual day of the visit is an important element of the educational process of the standards program. The review of the self-assessment may be completed person to person in the months prior to the start of the summer camp season; or the review can be done by mail or electronic exchange of documentation with a phone follow-up. Some documentation might also be viewed on a camp’s Web site (such as job descriptions, transportation information for parents, etc.).
As the Camp Self-Assessment must be completed no later than prior to the start of staff training, standards chairs have been asked to make visitor assignments as early in the new year as possible. Once you have received your assignment, please make contact with your camp designee immediately to begin the visit process.
