Research shows, regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic level, or previous achievement, children who read four or more books over the summer fare better on reading-comprehension tests in the fall than their peers who read one or no books over the summer (Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk, 2004).
Scholastic is dedicated to stopping the “Summer Slide” — the learning or reading skill losses accumulated during the summer months — through its annual Scholastic Summer Challenge program.
This summer, Scholastic is excited to team up with the American Camp Association again in support of the Explore 30 literacy initiative, and together will help get kids reading more books.
