Bob's Ditter's Presentations
“New Perspectives in Teen Brain Development and Implications for Camp Professionals”
Tremendous gains have been made recently in brain research with new insights into the adolescent brain. (Yes, they DO have one!) Come find out what the buzz is all about and how these new understandings can improve your communication with and programming for Teens. Bob has fresh examples from his work this summer!
“Sugar, Spice, Not Always So Nice!”---Working More Effectively with Relational Aggression in Girls at Camp
Bob has spent the last several summers working “in the trenches” with socially aggressive behavior at several all-girls resident camps. He will share his insights about where all this mean-girl behavior is coming from and what you can do about it! This is more than just a session on so-called relational aggression but a broader look at what makes girls tick with powerful, practical ideas about how best to intervene. Relevant to coed camps and day camps as well!
“Snips, Snails and Puppy Dog Tails"---Understanding and Working with the ‘Boy Code’ at Camp
Bob spends much of his summer working directly with boys who run afoul of things at camp. He believes the only way to understand bullying behavior in boys is to understand the so-called “boy code” and what it reflects. Come get an understanding of boys like you’re never had. Find out what makes up the boy version of bullying and how to address it in affective and powerful ways at camp!
“Building Character in the Age of Technology”
We know that 85% of children 11-17 have a cell phone and that they use it as a “phone” only one-third of the time. We know that by the time a boy in the US his 21 years old he will have played over 10,000 hours of video games. Come find out not just what the impact is of technology, but how and why camp can be more important than ever! Learn the surprise that technology is not the greatest threat!
