PRESENTER: Michael Thompson, Ph.D.
COST: ACA members: $35, Non-Members: $70
This webinar provides an introduction to childhood anxiety, both normal and extreme, and how those anxieties might affect the experiences of youth campers. The American Academy of Pediatrics has reported that pediatricians are seeing rising levels of anxiety in their patients; educators are seeing higher levels of anxiety in parents. Dr. Thompson will help camp directors and staff who may find themselves in the position of distinguishing between bad cases of homesickness and severe levels of separation anxiety disorder, while also talking to highly anxious parents on the phone.
In this webinar, participants will:
- Acquire a working knowledge of the major diagnoses in childhood anxiety disorders,
- Understand the research literature on homesickness,
- Learn to discriminate between various states of anxiety in children, and
- Identify patterns of homesickness.
