Self Actualization and Improvement in
Tennis Skills at Summer Camps for Adolescents

Purpose:
Determine if there was any improvement in
tennis skills and state of self-actualization
as a result of participation in a four week
residential summer camp.
Sample:
Males and females, ages 15 and 16, enrolled
in two coed four week tennis instructional
program sessions. 31 subjects in first camp
session, 27 in second camp session. No information
on the number of males and females in each
group.
Methods/Instruments:
Pre-test, Post-test. Personal Orientation
Inventory, tennis skills test.
The data were analyzed using one way ANOVA.
Results:
Campers in session one:
- Significantly higher self-actualization
scores (p < .01) at the end of the
session
- Significant improvement in becoming
more autonomous and self-supportive and
less dependency or deficiency oriented.
- Significant improvement in total tennis
stroke scores (p < .05).
No significant results for campers in session
two.
