Call for Proposals: Camp Staff Training Day – Los Angeles

ACA, Southern California/Hawaii is seeking workshops for Camp Staff Training Day – Los Angeles (June 1, 2013) that help to build the skills, passion and capacity of front-line and management staff to facilitate and support the development of fun, safe and high quality programs.  The target audience of the event is front line camp staff with a small selection of workshops available for supervisors. To submit a proposal, please complete the online form below.

Submission deadline:  March 22, 2013.

Suggested topics for workshops – counselor staff:

  • Games – “just for fun” games, teambuilding games, hip pocket activities, ice breakers
  • Songs
  • Supervising campers
  • Discipline techniques for campers
  • Problem solving with campers/dispute resolution
  • Identifying & responding to relational aggression/bullying
  • Inclusion and special needs
  • Field trips – how to supervise and coordinate
  • Bus supervision and programming
  • Creating “whimsy” at camp
  • Fun programming ideas (i.e. special events, treasure hunts, etc…)
  • How to incorporate kids’ input into programming
  • Communication
  • Leadership/leadership styles
  • Leading large groups
  • Skills/activities, i.e. art, dance, nature, cooking
  • Rainy day activities

  • Making the leap from camp staff to camp supervisor

  • I understand that all workshops are noncommercial and are not promotional opportunities. I agree to not solicit any business or promote business during my workshop session.

Handouts:
In consideration of environmental efforts to reduce paper waste, speakers are encouraged to submit handouts to be posted on the Camp Staff Training Day website for participant access. If a speaker would like to share handouts during their session, they are encouraged to make their own copies to help support ACA’s efforts to keep program costs low (and in turn, registration costs low). In this case, please bring 45 copies per session. If a speaker needs documents posted on the website or handout materials reproduced by ACA, Southern CA/HI, please submit to lreppert@ACAcamps.org in electronic format by May 24, 2013.
