Gosh, I am not sure where October has gone, yet the fall is flying by! I know all of you are busy revising health forms, getting set for camper and staff recruitment, planning program, and hopefully enjoying some “down time.”
A few things we hope you will find of interest:
REVISED STANDARDS: Check out the Section website (www.acasoutheastern.org) for quick links to a summary of the revisions of the ACA Standards as well as an “Inside” look at those that have been revised. We are learning more information daily about the revised standards and curricula for updating our camps/visitors and will share information as we can. Keep checking the website for an update of when Standards Courses and Visitor Updates are being offered (we hope to have this schedule complete by months end). A reminder: If you are an active visitor, attend a Visitor Update course, are involved in the preparation for your on-site visit and will be on-site the day of the visit – no one from your camp will need to attend a Standard Course. Feel free to call the office for more information.
ENROLLMENT SURVEY: If you (or some one else from your camp) have not yet completed the current on-line enrollment survey, PLEASE do so now! To date, only 48 of our 222 camps have completed this survey. As mentioned earlier – one of the MOST asked questions (from both internal and external audiences) is whether camp enrollment is up or down and in what areas. You are the ones that can provide us with this information. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete and is very useful information as ACA moves forward. Access the survey at: http://www.acacamps.org/research/camprecruitment.php. It would be great to have at least 50% of our camps complete this survey. The deadline to participate is October 27, 2006.
DISTRICT MEETINGS: The Central North Carolina Camp Professionals will be meeting at Camp Kanata ( Wake Forest , NC ) on Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 10 – noon . Guest speaker is Deb Bialeschki, Senior Research with ACA, Inc. This is a great opportunity to meet other camp professionals, discuss challenges of the summer and have input on potential educational offerings to be held in the future. TO RSVP and for more information, contact Keyauwee@northstate.net. Florida Camp Professionals will have the opportunity to get together on Saturday, December 2. Final details are still in the works, but mark your calendar.
ACA SOUTHEASTERN RECEIVES GRANT! ACA Southeastern received a $4500 grant from Recreation Equipment, Inc (REI) to print and distribute our Section Directory! Work will begin on this project in early November and all section camps accredited on November 1, 2006 will have a listing. Please help us make sure your information is correct by checking out your camp in the FIND A CAMP section of the ACA Website (http://find.acacamps.org/finding_a_camp.php) If information is incorrect, please contact the Section office to update! Help us make sure folks looking for a camp can find you! The directory will be available in early 2007.
SHARE YOU THOUGHTS! Please let us know if you have heard a great speaker, been to an outstanding workshop or have a need for additional education in a certain area. We are in the midst of planning an education calendar and want to make sure we are meeting the needs of you, our members!
Closing Thought: You never know when you are making a memory!
