The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, Savannah Office are offering the following courses:

Basic Water Rescue and Small Craft Safety-canoe
Friday May 16, 2008 | 5pm to 9pm
Saturday May 17, 2008 | 8am to 12pm

Camp Low, Savannah GA
Cost: $40.00
This course certifies adults to lead/instruct others during flat water/lake canoeing activities.

Moving Water, White Water and River Canoeing
Saturday May 17, 2008 | 3pm to 6pm
Camp Low, Savannah GA
Cost: $30.00
This course certifies adults to lead/instruct others during moving water, white water and river canoeing.

Instructor of Basic Water Rescue and Small Craft Safety
Saturday May 17, 2008 | 12:30pm to 3pm
Camp Low, Savannah GA
Cost: $40.00
This course certifies adults to certify others in these classes.
Pre requisites; Red Cross FIT, current certified in BWR & SCS, good canoeing and swimming skills

American Canoe Association (ACA) Whitewater Kayak
Instructor Certification Course

May 10-11 - Instructor Development Workshop
May 16-18 - Instructor Certification Exam
Ocoee River, Tennessee | Trainer: Larry Sellars

The purpose of an IDW is to give Instructor Candidates an idea of what they need to know or learn to successfully complete an ICE. These classes are loaded with great information, learning theory, teaching methods, paddling skills, rescue work and technical knowledge. You can bring your own kayaks, and you will also need your PFD, paddle, and paddle clothing appropriate for the weather. Please bring food and snacks for yourself as well.

The cost of the certification course is $450.00 plus the ACA fees listed below.

The following items are required….

  • A desire to learn new teaching methods, increase your own paddling skills and have fun.
  • An American Canoe Association Instructor’s Manual. I will have these for you, along with lots of handout materials. Also, please bring paper, pen and a comfortable chair.
  • Your American Canoe Association number. You must be a member of the American Canoe Association ($40) and register with the Safety Education and Instruction Council (SEIC) ($25) to participate in this course (acanet.org). Applications will be available on Saturday if you are not already a member of the American Canoe Association.

Landmark Learning Swiftwater Rescue Courses

ACA Swiftwater Rescue (SWR)
When: May 24 – 25 or July 19 – 20
Where : Landmark Learning Campus, Cullowhee, NC
This 2-day course is the most comprehensive training for whitewater trip leaders and involves hands-on practice time and advanced rescues including Rescue PFDs and mechanical advantage.

ACA Advanced Swiftwater Rescue (ASWR)
When: August 13 – 14
Where : Landmark Learning Campus, Cullowhee , NC
This course is an add-on to the Swiftwater Rescue course for 1-2 additional days of training in technical rescue and multiple scenarios and is great for practice with your group or if you are just looking for more tricks.
