ACA offers data-gathering youth self-report measures that focus on common camp outcomes related to skills that build successful contributing members of our society. Questionnaires are statistically tested, camp-specific, age-appropriate, easily administered tools AND they can be customized to any camp.
CATCH KIDS CLUB This online course takes you through the entire CATCH Kids Club (CKC) program and provides information on how to get this after-school version of CATCH up and running in your community. Modules cover everything from how to use the materials, as well as video demonstrations on how to work with the kids in your program. The CATCH Kids Club online course also contains a module that covers how to identify special needs children and adapt physical activities specifically for them.
It is a common refrain that the college years best represent "the time of our lives," replete with newfound independence and denoting fulfillment of academic, social, emotional, and workforce development goals. In reality, for many it may be something quite different — and quite unsettling.
In Beach Lake, Pennsylvania, at a large residential summer camp, over one hundred male counselors pack the air-conditioned canteen on July 1. It is late as the off-duty counselors watch the re-run of the United States vs. Belgium World Cup soccer game. Groups of enthusiastic soccer fans huddle close to the television as the game goes into extra time because of a tied score at the end of regulation play. Minutes later, an eruption of voices reverberated through the camp, waking up children in nearby bunks. What was the cause of such a boisterous cheer?
Use of public lands and waters is essential for many camp programs. It is estimated that at least 9 percent of all camps use public lands and waters for at least a portion of their program. ACA partners with government agencies at the federal, state, and local levels to achieve our common goal of increasing access to public lands for young people and of helping to inspire an environmental ethic among campers and staff.
Create an environment that provides learning experiences that meet each individual’s needs, capabilities, and interests in ways that complement developmental tasks in all domains.
Provide support for the development of learning skills that complement individual learning styles to minimize learning loss, increase learning readiness, and acquire specific content knowledge appropriate to the camp’s mission and goals.
