Canoe Instructor Certification CourseACA Canoe Instructor Certification Course:  

May 11 - 15, 2013. (# days dependant on level desired by candidate)
Camp Bethel, Fincastle, Virginia
This course is a certification course for Levels 1- 4 in Whitewater Canoe Instruction.  Level 1 is a 2 day course (May 11 – 12) for those teaching/leading on lakes, While Levels 2 – 4 are for moving water (rivers).  Candidates may certify for any of the 4 levels.  Upon passing the course, certification is valid for 4 years.

Level 3 – 4 Canoe Instructor Certification Weekend  
May 4 – 5, 2013

For current L2 or L3 Canoe Instructors only, this weekend is the perfect opportunity to update your certification or upgrade your certification to include Level 3 River Canoe or Level 4 Whitewater Canoe.  Contact Beth for registration materials and more information.

 

ACA Trip Leader Course and Skills Assessment for Canoe and/or Kayak
May 25 – 27, 2013
Lexington, Virginia
Two and ½ days from 9 am May 25 – 1 pm May 27.  This is a non-certification course that provides documentation of participants’ skills and training that focuses on planning day trips, prevention, and safety and rescue.  Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive 2 certificates of completion and assessment from the American Canoe Association.  This can count as an update for current ACA Instructors.  Contact Instructor Trainer, Beth Wiegandt, at sbwiegandt@rbnet.com; Cell # (540) 556-2594, for more information and registration materials.

 

ACA Canoe Instructor Updates:  Available at all listed courses and dates.

Wilderness First Aid

This Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course is ACA-approved and necessary for camp counselors to care for someone injured or fallen ill, when it's more than an hour from time of injury / illness to EMS' arrival. Hands-on learn how to save life and limb during the critical minutes or hours before ambulance / hospital hand-off. The SOLO WFA course blends classroom instruction and outdoor rescue scenario practice, resulting in a 2-year WFA certification, and also counting as WFR recertification. The 2-day class runs 8:30am - 6pm each day. Fee: $175; 10% of course proceeds go to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization. No prerequisites. For adults and youths ages 12 and older.

August 14-21: Wilderness First Responder (8 days) at Spruce Knob, WV
