Camp Holiday Trails celebrates 40 years of providing camp for children with special medical needs. Based in Charlottesville, VA, we welcome campers age 5-17 with a special medical need, from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, for one and two-week summer camp sessions and offer additional short-term camps and rentals year-round.

Camp Description: Camp Holiday Trails (CHT) is a non-profit residential camp for children with special medical needs. CHT is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on just under 75 beautiful acres. While our location feels remote, we are just minutes from downtown Charlottesville (1 hour from Richmond, VA; 2 hours from Wash., DC.) We have a 40-year history and our 100-bed facility engages a max. of 60 kids per session (remaining beds for staff and med team) with a current history of wait lists. The Job: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Program Director provides year-round, full-time, on-site oversight, administration and day-to-day facilitation of high quality programming for CHT including, but not limited to: overnight camping for kids with special medical needs; family camping; weekend camping; leadership development programs; rentals and community events and fundraisers.

The Ideal Applicant: CHT is a highly professional non-profit camp where all staff are very hands on. We work hard and exercise our sense of humor. Our Program Director must be child-centered, highly organized, possess strong conflict resolution skills, demonstrate initiative and creative problem solving. Our Program Director must present a professional image and have excellent written, oral and presentation skills. We are looking for an effective communicator, supervisor,trainer and mentor to all camp staff, campers and parents. Candidate must have the ability to make sound judgments and
decisions in a calm manner, yet bring charisma and engage a crowd when needed! Must recognize and respect sensitive information and confidentiality. Our Program Director must have stamina and flexibility and be able to work various days during the week including evenings, weekends and overnights. Candidate must have excellent knowledge of policies, procedures, activities, program planning and children with special medical needs as they relate to camping – and have a willingness to live onsite.

Education/Experience Required:
• Minimum of 24 years of age
• Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of summer program leadership – experience with special health needs preferred and/or willingness to be a fast learner!
• Minimum of 2 years of supervision experience including ability to recruit, train, motivate and supervise staff and volunteers (includes committee work)
• Possess deep knowledge of camp programming, camp activities, cabin life, group development, evening programs, outdoor education, working with volunteers and special events
• Must have sense of humor and be willing to sacrifice clothes to tie-dye

Salary Information: $31,000 - $35,000 annually. Additional compensation: CHT rewards dedicated staff by offering an excellent benefits package including 80% health premiums paid, 100% dental, a simple IRA, a generous time off package and professional development opportunities.

Housing: This position includes year-round, onsite housing in our Director’s Lodge as a condition of employment.
