ACAYP UPDATE—May 7,
2008
Hey
YPs—
With camp just around the corner, we just wanted to give you a quick update
about what’s going on with ACAYP. Stay up to date all year long on
at www.ACAYP.org.

On
July 1, ACA is launching a new membership model. All members will
receive the same products and services regardless of their member dues
rate. What
does this mean for you? The big news: your student membership stays at
$35 – and you'll receive the same products and services as all other
members! To be eligible for this special rate, you must be a
full-time student. Individual memberships will be $200, so your
student discount is more than 80%! FOR
MORE INFORMATION: www.ACAYP.org or www.ACAcamps.org/students/benefits.php. I
really enjoy visiting camps during their staff orientations to see the great
young people that will do the most important work of “role model” throughout
the summer. I like to jump up on a chair and yell out “WHO DO WE WORK
FOR!!???” and they spontaneously yell, “WE WORK FOR THE KIDS!!!!!” And
I shout right back, “AND WHAT’S OUR GOAL!!??” and they scream
“FUUUNN!” They’re wrong on both counts. These
kids didn’t pay for their own way to camp, they didn’t sign themselves
up. Who fills out 95% of the camp registration forms? That’s
right, MOM. She’s the one that gets the ball rolling each year, takes
responsibility for researching camps AND makes the final decision as to
whether her child is ready for camp, where they’ll go, and how long they’ll
stay. Wouldn’t it be smart to find out things she thinks are most important?
ACAYP
is committed to helping young people jumpstart their careers in camping. To
accomplish this, ACA-YPs has begun a mentoring program to connect aspiring
camp professionals with established camp directors and executives. The
program will benefit both mentors and mentees allowing for the exchange of
veteran advice with a fresh perspective.
Within days the first round of mentor parings will be launched. Don’t
miss out. SIGN UP NOW at www.ACAYP.org/Mentor
In the never-ending search to find more ways to engage YPs, we
have created an ACAYP Facebook Group. Don’t get left out. Join now. On the
group you can network and stay in touch with other YPs, ask questions of each
other, post your favorite camp pictures, or just reconnect with you
“conference friends.”
ACAYP
has been in discussions with the ACA National Staff and Committee about the role
of Young Professionals in the future of the organization. If you would
like to get involved in these discussions, or in any other way with ACAYP,
please email Andy@CampLenox.com with
more information. Thanks, -The
