Washington State - Wildfire Smoke Rules

Washington state enacted a new law to protect workers who may be exposed to the small particles contained in wildfire smoke. There is similar regulation in other states such as California.

This new law requires employers to create a plan for each level of air quality. The Washington website has several resources to support you in meeting this requirement. Below is the link to their webpage as well as the regulation language. 

These rules will apply to camp staff employees.  Review job descriptions and requirements for your employees to ensure compliance.

Washington State - Water Recreation

The Washington State Department of Health is considering amending the water recreation rules to adopt the CDC's Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) standards.

Washington State - Epinephrine Autoinjectors 

Epinephrine Autoinjectors and Anaphylaxis Training and Reporting for Authorized Entities

Update regarding Epinephrine Autoinjectors and Anaphylaxis Training and Reporting for Authorized Entities. The Department of Health was tasked to provide administrative oversight for portions of the law passed by  Washington State’s legislature.  The department produced a document that communicates their efforts in implementing the law (link). The requirements relating to the law were recently filed and will be effective in February 2018, please visit the following link for more information and rule language- WSR 18-03-039 establishing chapter 246-570 WAC.  

The department is currently developing applications for training providers. Approved providers will be able to provide additional trainings to the public than the current option offered through the Red Cross. The department’s target date is to make applications available in February. Epi-pen law for Washington State

SB 6421 passed and was signed into law March 10, 2016. The law amends the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 70.54.  The law may be viewed Chapter 10, 2016 Laws. The law is effective June 9th, 2016. 

Changes that will Affect Camps

  • Authorized health care providers may prescribe epinephrine autoinjectors in the name of authorized entities, including recreation camps.   
  • An authorized entity may acquire and stock a supply of Epinephrine autoinjectors pursuant to a prescription issued in accordance with the code. 
  • Authorized entities must first complete training as described in the code, then the entity may seek out an authorized prescriber, and stock the epinephrine autoinjectors in their health center.
  • There are reporting requirements associated with the new code.
