Sessions and Schedule - ACA, Michigan 2018 Fall Gathering

Breakout Sessions Include:

Stop Complaining & Start Solving!  Teaching Staff to Become Solution-Focused
Susan Fee
Is your staff more interested in focusing on problems instead of solutions?  Encouraging employees to be solution focused means helping them focus on what’s going right, determining what has been helpful in the past, and challenging them about what they can do today to create change.  Find out how to help people acknowledge and break negative patterns, ask empowering questions, and replace excuses with positive action.

Encouraging Your Staff to be Self-Motivated
Susan Fee
Employee motivation affects every aspect of business including hiring, training, productivity, marketing, retention, and profit. But, it’s not a supervisor's job to do the motivating! Instead it’s to create a culture in which staff becomes self-motivated. Inspiring leaders walk beside employees, offering coaching and encouragement to achieve self-directed goals.

Wells, Water and Septic Systems: The Hydrologic Cycle at Camp
Dan Denov
Learn about the hardware, the terminology, the operation and the maintenance needs concerning the water distribution systems and the sewerage treatments that are typically found at a camp.  There will be handouts, diagrams and a discussion illustrating the well types and septic system types as well as a question and answer (hopefully!) session.  Knowledge is power!

When You Need More Than a Band-Aid-A Look at MESH Issues at Camp
Jalisa Danhof

MESH - Mental, Emotional, and Social Health issues have become a challenge to navigate in every youth development program. Learn activities to train staff to handle MESH concerns with compassion. Leave the session with strategies for hiring and supporting staff throughout the season. With new resources from the Association of Camp Nursing, this Mental Health First Aid session will be faced-paced, fun, and interactive.

Fake It Till' You Become it:
Scott Lakin
How to make community connections in a new position, how to run fast without burning yourself out, and how to articulate the mission of your organization to attract others.
