Open Positions to Serve on the Staff Recruitment and Retention Steering Committee

We know that this has been a particularly challenging summer for getting folks to commit to any type of employment and that this is not a new trend in our industry, especially in recent years, to fill camp staff positions with qualified persons. As you may very well know first-hand, the struggle to hire staff for 2021 (and have them show up and stay!) was painfully felt in camps across the country.

To continue the work to support camps in their efforts to recruit, hire, and retain staff, ACA’s Staff Recruitment and Retention Steering Committee (SRRC) will be expanding in size and would like to announce the opportunity to be part of this important effort.

Project Real Job (PRJ) has been the major thrust of the committee to date and has provided various resources and tools that share the message of the value of working at camp through infographics, videos, and @WorkAtCamp on TikTok. Blogs and articles written for Camping Magazine by numerous authors in addition to regional and national conference presentations give insight on the many aspects of the staffing process. We are excited to host a Virtual Staffing Summit in November to jumpstart the staffing season leading up to 2022 (and beyond).

Because the ACA Steering Committee on Staff Recruitment and Retention is committed to ensuring diversity on the Committee and in all the work we do, we are extending our outreach for volunteers as far and wide as possible. View the documents that provide the charge and operating code of the SRRC along with the Committee service description.

If you would like to be considered for the Staff Recruiting and Retention Steering Committee, please complete this interest form by October 4, 2021. Applicants will be notified of Committee membership before the end of October.

We appreciate you sending this to other folks you know who might want to get involved or who look at staffing with a creative lens. If you have any questions or would like more information regarding the work of the SRRC, please contact Kim Aycock ( or Deb Jordan (, co-chairs of SRRC.
