After working in the camp community for her professional career (as counselor, program director, camp director, ACA staff), ACA Director of Accreditation, Rhonda Mickelson, has decided it is time to move to the next adventure and is retiring in early 2019. Her last day will be February 28.

Mickelson joined ACA in the role of director of standards in 2007, leaving a key position in the ACA, Southeastern region as its executive director. During Mickelson’s tenure, the accreditation program underwent a number of key changes as the association itself experienced an operational transformation.

Highlights include the intentional alignment of accreditation and professional development; changes to the visit cycle and more meaningful connections with camps in non-visit years; and most recently, the release of the 2019 version of ACA standards.

In addition to Mickelson’s contributions as a professional staff member, she has served as a volunteer leader, fulfilling multiple roles on local boards, led the conference team for the ACA National Conference in Denver, and held an elected seat on the ACA National Board. Additionally, Mickelson is a longtime Acorn Society member.

ACA will begin the process of recruiting a new director of accreditation this month.
