The Five Days of Action initiative empowers organizations to protect children from sexual abuse.

Martinsville, Indiana — (April 11, 2022) — The American Camp Association (ACA) is proud to partner with the YMCA Champions for Child Protection, YMCA of the USA, The Redwoods Group Foundation, the Monique Burr Foundation for Children, and Darkness to Light on the Five Days of Action initiative. Designed by Darkness to Light, the Five Days of Action is a weeklong campaign to raise awareness and inspire adults to take action to protect children from sexual abuse. The campaign was initiated by the YMCA Champions for Child Protection, a group of YMCA CEOs committed to activating the power of youth-serving organizations to engage communities, improve internal operations, and advance policy and environmental change to protect children from sexual abuse.

During the Five Days of Action on April 18–22, 2022, participating organizations will observe Child Abuse Prevention Month by actively participating in sexual abuse prevention. The Five Days of Action campaign provides a day-by-day guide with actionable steps that reinforces three important habits — know, see, and respond — to help organizations spread awareness about how and when abuse happens, how to recognize the signs, and how to respond quickly and appropriately.

“Abuse prevention is one of the most important things we do at camp,” said Tom Rosenberg, ACA president/CEO. “As camp professionals, we strive to provide safe, healthy spaces for children to grow and learn. ACA is excited to partner on such an important initiative as part of our ongoing child abuse prevention work.”

The American Camp Association is working diligently to prevent child abuse through educating the camp field. ACA offers many educational tools and resources — including live and recorded webinars, trainings, Camping Magazine articles, and more — to help camp professionals become more informed in preventing child sexual abuse.

Camp professionals can also complete a child sexual abuse prevention training offered by The Redwoods Group within the ACA Learning Center.
