Senior Accountant [Job Posting]

ACA is seeking an individual to join our team as a senior accountant. We are eager to find an individual who is mission focused and passionate about the benefit of a camp experience. To be successful in this role, an individual must be:

  • Organized and able to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.

Reporting to the chief financial officer, the senior accountant is accountable for a variety of duties and responsibilities in support of and advancing the mission of ACA as innovative, thoughtful, communicative, welcoming, and productive members of the association team.

 What would you do if hired?

  • Make daily bank deposits and cash reconciliations.
  • Day-to-day administration of accounts payable, and GL Journal Entries.
  • Accounts Payable: Processes accounts payable, prints payable checks and maintains the file system for paper documentation
  • General Ledger and Bank Accounts: Reconciles sub-ledger to general account balances, reconciles and posts batches to the accounting software, reconciles bank statements
  • Accounting Month End Procedures: Creates journal entries, accounts, and maintains the investment reconciliations
  • Monitor the American Camping Foundation, accounting, deposits, etc.
  • Serve as team leader for the Customer Service team
  • Backup the HR manager for the payroll function including, collecting, and entering data; tracking exemptions, deductions, and vacation/sick/personal hours; works with third party vendor to determine payroll liabilities; resolves discrepancies; ensures compliance with all relevant payroll regulations and laws; and provides appropriate reports.
  • Backup the HR manager for enrollment of employees in elected benefits, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, Long-term and Short-term disability, pension plan and COBRA.
  • Provides office and clerical support by implementing administrative systems and procedures.
  • Ensures accuracy of all documentation including proper signatories, filing, and document retention.
  • Collects and/or generates knowledge and provides avenues for distributing that knowledge to others.
  • Member of the ACA Phone group, answering general calls coming into the organization. 

What are we looking for in a candidate?

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in accounting or finance
  • At least five years’ experience in Accounting, Not-for-profit experience preferred, with at least two years being in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with Dynamics GP preferred. 
  • Experience with payroll processing and administration preferred.
  • Confidential Functions: Performs complex and confidential administrative functions.
  • Creativity: Applies creativity and originality in work. Sees possibilities that other have not yet seen, or combines ideas and approaches suggested by others in a unique manner that results in breakthroughs and improvements.
  • Data Integrity: Uses data-related best practices and formulates processes and checks-and-balances to ensure the integrity and protection of the association's data.
  • General Ledger and Bank Accounts knowledge.
  • Ability to regularly work within the ACA’s normal hours of operation of 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday – in the time zone of the primary team’s region. Individual work schedules may range from 7:00am to 5:00pm based on time zone of the primary team’s region.
