Instructor Updates - Eastern Region

ACA accreditation is a continually evolving process - helping camps and visitors understand the components of the accreditation process is an important part of the instructor role, and we are grateful for your service.  

Instructor Update Workshops will be offered throughout the fall and we look forward to having you join us!  Before registering for the in-person Instructor Update Workshop below, please review the following responsibilities and expectations for Instructors who will conduct training in the coming year.  If you know that you cannot commit to the instructor role for the coming year and/or you have questions, please contact Brandie Le Clair

Instructor Expectations & Responsibilities

  1. Update as an Instructor for the 2019 season:
    • Prepare for in-person practice teaching assignments (information will be given after registration) 
    • Attend in-person Instructor Update Workshop (approximately 8 hours) 
    • Complete on-line Instructor Update course supplement (approximately 1 hour)  - this can be completed before or after the in-person workshop 
    • Review now and re-commit during the update registration process to both the
      Instructor Service Description and Professional Conduct/Conflict of Interest Statement 
  2. Share availability with local Standards staff member/Standards Chair and familiarize yourself with 2019 curriculum 
  3. Teach/co-teach, as needed, one or more standards trainings in preparation for 2019 visits 
  4. One or more of the following:  
    • Lead follow-up discussions for those who complete online courses 
    • Lead or assist with regional “virtual office hours” (online, scheduled Q&A webinars addressing one or two sections of the standards) 
    • Lead or assist with a virtual/webinar course, if offered in your area 
    • Serve as a mentor for a camp or visitor

If you are still interested in volunteering and remaining an ACA Standards Instructor, please register for your closest Local Office workshop option by September 7th, 2018If the date option for your closest workshop does not work with your schedule, please immediately contact Brandie Le Clair to find an alternative course offering. 

Standards Chairs - If you have already registered for the October's chair training and the following Instructor Update Workshop - you DO NOT need to do anything else.  If you still need to register for the Standards Chair Training, please do so ASAP.

 *ACA, Ohio - there is also an option located in Indianaopolis, IN on October 13-14, 2018 for those of you closer to Cincinnati, OH.   **Instructors from these offices may choose between options based upon the closest option to your location.

Travel Information

  • Once registered, please share your travel plans by completing the brief online form below.  Please assist us with helping to keep trainging costs down by choosing the most economical travel option that makes the most sense for your availability:

  • If needed, based on the travel info you share, you will receive additional info on lodging/hotel and airport pick-up/return.  Lodging can be available with each option, especially if you need to come in the night before.
  • If driving, please make sure to price out which would be more economical - driving your own car and claiming mileage reimbursement or renting a car.
  • Instructors that will need to fly in for the update are responsible for making their own flight arrangements - please book flights as soon as possible and at least 14 days prior to the course to get best pricing.  Travel costs for attending the update will be covered/reimbursed by ACA.
  • If flying, we will do our best to arrange shuttle service to/from airport to the workshop location; if we are not able to arrange this we will let you know that you will need to also rent a car.  If we are able to provide shuttle service and you would still like to have a rental car, that cost will be incurred by the individual (not ACA).
