Awards in ACA, Southwest

On behalf of ACA Southwest the following recognitions were awarded at National Conference in Albuquerque:

The Sahuaro Award: For sustained outstanding service to the local field office area

Dave Silverstein:  While Dave’s roots are with ACA New York/New Jersey, he makes his home in Arizona.  ACA Southwest has benefitted from his wealth of knowledge of standards and his experience with the National Standards Commission.  Locally he serves as a Standards Instructor and as mentor to new instructors.  Dave has been generous with his time while mentoring camps through the accreditation process.  We in the Southwest are fortunate to have Dave on our Standards team.

Cal Wright: Cal is a long time member of ACA.  She was active when we were Coronado Section at which time she served as Board President.  Most recently Cal has served as an Standards  Visitor and Instructor.  She took on the challenge of Standards Chair of the LCOL in January of 2013.  Since that time the service to our visitors and accredited camps has shown a marked improvement.  Cal has facilitated regular training and updates as well as seeing us through the national transition to a five year cycle.

Cal served as a versatile member of the Albuquerque National Conference Committee.  In her role she procured entertainment, set up the local service project and helped facilitate contacts between national organizers and local resources.

Through the University of New Mexico, Cal is affiliated with Camp Rising Sun, a camp which serves autistic youth.

The Sagebrush Award:  For outstanding service for a newcomer

Traci Kipnes:  Traci joined the SW LCOL this past fall as the new Standards Chair.  She is a Standards Visitor and Instructor as well as a mentor to many in the camp community.    Traci was an invaluable member of the Albuquerque National Conference Committee.  She coordinated the local camp visits and program for the large group of International conference attendees.  She was part of the Outreach team which resulted in a record number of conference attendees from the local area.  Traci ensured that the conference was welcoming through her efforts with the Hospitality team.

Traci will be spending her twentieth season at Girl Scout Camp Elliott Barker where she serves as camp director and manager of the equestrian program.

ACA Southwest wishes to continue to recognize outstanding service to our local area.  We plan to include recognition of outstanding camps and their programs and practices.  Watch for information for nominations this fall.
