I SURVIVED Summer 2021 — And I Need Help

Please join the American Camp Association (ACA) for a special event with renowned licensed clinical social worker and child, adolescent, and family therapist Bob Ditter. ACA is committed to supporting the health and strength of our community while acknowledging the challenges of summer 2021 and providing the resources needed to move forward.  Sessions in this special, two-part webinar series will look at what we’ve learned over the last 20 months, acknowledging the emotions and challenges we have endured in our community and at home.

Bob will lead the first session on September 30 and focus on strategies, recommendations, and insights to help those in attendance thrive in 2022 and beyond.

A facilitator will lead a debriefing session the following week. Participants will have the option of selecting from one of three debriefing sessions:

  • Session 1: October 4 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time — Facilitated by Brandon Briery
  • Session 2: October 4 from 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time — Facilitated by Dave Brown
  • Session 3: October 5 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time — Facilitated by John Hamilton

Presenter Bio

Bob Ditter is a child, adolescent and family therapist who works nationally and internationally with youth-serving organizations. A noted camp consultant and trainer, he has been quoted in The New York Times, Money Magazine, The Ladies Home Journal, Parent Magazine, USA Today, and The Boston Globe. Sports Illustrated called him “camping’s most articulate spokesperson.” Bob continues to bring fresh perspectives and cutting-edge information to the best traditions of children’s summer camps.

Facilitator Bios

Brandon G. Briery, Ph.D., began working in medical and disabilities camping while in college, earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Child Psychology, completed post-doctoral training in Pediatric Psychology, and then joined the faculty of the University of Miami. In 2005 he left UM to return to his roots in camping and currently serves as Executive Camp Director/Chief Program Officer at Camp CAMP in Center Point, Texas. Altogether, Dr. Briery has spent over 30 years advocating for, and providing direct service to, individuals with medical conditions and/or disabilities and their families.

Dave Brown is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works year round for Mountain Camp, an independent, resident camp near Lake Tahoe, CA. At camp, he supports staff and camper mental health, well-being, and development. He also maintains a small telehealth therapy practice from his home in the Bay Area where he lives with his partner and 2 young sons. Dave is still recovering from the 2021 summer which suffered multiple disruptions from smoke and fire, and is looking forward to debriefing!

John Hamilton collaborates with human services agencies, clinicians, and youth development leaders to offer hope to children around the country. John is an expert in youth programming and trauma-informed care at camp. He brings a unique hope and healing-centered approach to the work, which moves people from theory to practice. With a master’s degree from Western Seminary and twenty-plus years of camp experience, John specializes in forging unlikely partnerships and developing unified teams. John and his wife, Lana, live in New Hampshire with their four daughters, Sadie, Kallan, Eleanor, and Wren.
