ACA Community Service Project: Plant Books – Grow Minds
ACA Book Drive: Plant Books – Grow Minds
Atlanta 2012
Giving back to our host city has become an annual tradition for ACA National Conference attendees and exhibitors.
The 2012 Conference Team is launching a new community service project to benefit children and families in need, in Atlanta. Building on ACA’s work to address summer learning loss and enhance youth literacy through the Explore 30 Camp Reading Program, please plan to bring new or gently used children’s books and participate in the book drive, which will benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Pediatric Hospital and International Community School.
Fiction and non-fiction will be welcomed, for ages four through young-adult readers. Our goal is to donate 1000 books. Whether you bring a single book or ship a case, your contribution will make an impact.
CHOA Mission:
Our mission at Children's is to enhance the lives of children through excellence in patient care, research and education.
ICS Overview:
The ICS focus is on educating the whole child, seeking to develop the innate curiosity of our students while celebrating cultural differences in a challenging, nurturing and intentionally multi-ethnic environment.
The ICS has provided information on what they have the greatest need for:
- Early childhood picture books
- Hardcover picture books
- Nonfiction science books, particularly about animals and birds
- Art and drawing books
- Graphic novels for 5th and 6th grade students
Let’s assist both organizations in their mission to help children by packing children's books this February and bringing them to Atlanta with you.
Ship Ahead option:
We are pleased to announce that our friends at Camp Kudzu in Atlanta have agreed to accept pre-conference shipments of books. If you would like to pre-ship your donation please do so by February 1, 2011.
