ACA Community Service Project: Plant Books – Grow Minds

ACA Book Drive: Plant Books – Grow Minds
Orlando 2014

Giving back to our host city has become an annual tradition for ACA National Conference attendees and exhibitors.

The 2014 Conference Team has planned a community service project to benefit children and families in need in Orlando. Please plan to bring new or gently used children’s books and participate in the book drive, which will benefit the Florida Hospital for Children and Children's Movement of Florida - ReadingPals.

Our goal is to donate 1,000 books. Books can be brought to the conference or shipped to a local address in advance. Whether you bring a single book or a bunch, your contribution will make an impact.

Children's Movement of Florida - ReadingPals
ReadingPals is an early literacy initiative designed to help ensure that more children are reading at grade level by the end of third grade.  ReadingPals works by engaging, training, and deploying volunteer “reading pals” in 10 Florida regions -- with a focus on improving the reading abilities of students from pre-K to third grade in lower-performing schools and childcare centers.  Nearly a third of Florida’s third graders attending public school cannot read at minimally proficient levels. And, sadly, those children are four times more likely to drop out of high school. There are many partners: The Children's Movement, local United Ways, school districts, Women’s Leadership Councils, Early Learning Coalitions, Children’s Services Councils, local libraries and so many others.    ReadingPals is being launched in 10 Florida regions through the local United Ways.

Children’s books requested are new & used books for Pre-Kindergarten (3-4 years old) to the third grade (8 years old)

Florida Hospital for Children
The Florida Hospital for Children is a state-of-the art facility created just for kids, featuring an assembly of highly skilled pediatric medical practitioners who have dedicated their lives to helping children of all ages regain their health and maintain wellness.   We are proud to have the only bone marrow transplantation program in the region and our advanced neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) have international reputations of excellence.   Our greatest reward is seeing each child walk out the front door of our hospital for the last time, filled with all the wonder and magic good health offers.  At  Florida Hospital for Children, we believe that dreams really do come true—the dream of health and wellness for every child.

Let’s assist both organizations in their mission to help children and the local community by bringing books with you to Orlando.

Thanks for your help to insure that the ACA Book Drive: Plant Books, Grow Minds is a big success in 2014.

Giving back to our host city…..ACA helping local kids….A great partnership!!
