The American Rescue Plan Act recently expanded the 2021 child tax credit and made advanced payments available. As a result, the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has created a toolkit (PDF) that you can share with your camp parents to help them get part of their child tax credit in advance.

These child tax credits, which will provide up to $300 per month for children under six years old and up to $250 per month for children ages six through 17, will be distributed via direct deposit on July 15, August 13, September 15, October 15, November 15, and December 15.

This IRS toolkit provides valuable information and resources to:

  • Taxpayers who have qualifying children for the child tax credit
  • People who normally don’t file a tax return but qualify for the child tax credit
  • People with special circumstances (e.g., no permanent address, no bank account in which to receive the advance payments of the child tax credit)

In addition, the toolkit provides step-by-step directions for using the IRS’s non-filers sign-up tool, offers resources and materials (some available in multiple languages) that can be shared throughout your community, and answers common questions such as who qualifies and how/when payments will be received.

Check out the toolkit and spread the word to your camp parents/guardians about how they can receive partial child tax credits in advance. These advanced tax credits might be able to help some families afford camp experiences for their child(ren).
