ACA, Keystone EPIC Exchange - "Belonging & Resilience at Camp: Small Changes That Create Big Impact"

Join us for the next ACA, Keystone EPIC Exchange! Our April call will feature Lex Horwitz! This session explores how intentional everyday actions can help create camp environments where campers and staff feel seen, supported, and valued. When individuals experience a true sense of belonging, confidence grows and resilience follows. Through guided conversation and interactive activities focused on affirmation, self-love, and connection, participants will reflect on how they show up for themselves and others in their camp communities.

We’ll explore how love, affirmation, and belonging are not just ideas, but actions that require intention and attention. Attendees will leave with simple, practical ways to foster belonging, support emotional growth, and help campers and staff build resilience, all through small changes that create meaningful, lasting impact.

Lex Horwitz (he/him) is a passionate LGBTQIA+ Educator, Consultant, and Public Speaker of queer and trans experience. He supports communities by creating inclusive, welcoming, affirming and safe environments where everyone has a sense of belonging and can thrive. Lex works with educational institutions, nonprofits, medical centers and businesses creating and presenting LGBTQIA+ curriculum and training, developing inclusive policy, producing educational resources, and providing feedback and action steps to address areas of growth. Through Lex’s keynote, he shares his journey as the first out transgender athlete at his college and in his sport, and what it was like for him to navigate the binary sports world as a non-binary person — including his experience in switching teams. In providing powerful judgment-free safe spaces where all can engage in critical conversation on gender, sexuality, and community, Lex supports people in becoming effective allies in action to the LGBTQIA+ community – moving past inclusion into affirmation and belonging. 

EPIC is a community created to support Emerging Professionals in Camping. We believe leadership grows not in isolation, but through belonging, mentorship, and shared experiences. This season, we’re focusing on building bridges - between generations of camp professionals, across diverse camp settings, and within ourselves as we learn to balance passion with sustainability.
