American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course

Join us at Camp Liberty for a comprehensive 4-day Lifeguarding certification course that combines online learning with in-person, hands-on training!  Participants (must be at least 15 years of age by the last scheduled class session) will complete the online instructional modules at their own pace before arriving at camp for four full days of skill developement, practice, and assessment by our American Red Cross Certified instructors.

• Participants must complete the online modules prior to the start of in-person sessions.
  • Participants will NOT be able to participate in in-person training without proof of completion of online instructional modules.
• During the in person portion of the course, participants will review and master essential lifeguarding skills including:
  • Water rescues
  • Spinal injury management
  • Surveillance techniques
  • Emergency response
  • CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers
• Training will take place at Camp Liberty 's pool, offering a realistic environment to prepare for work in aquatic settings.
• Participants should expect:
  • Full training days with both classroom and in water components.
  • Written tests required for American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.
  • To demonstrate the following skills:
    • Swim 300 yards continuously-demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.
    • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs starting in the water.
    • Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps. 

• Meals and housing are fully included, creating a supportive, immersive experience where participants can focus on building confidence, competence, and leadership in lifeguarding.

***Upon successful completion of this Lifeguarding course, the participant will receive an American Red Cross Universal Certificate indicating certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, which is valid for two years.***
