For many kids, summer camp is a familiar tradition — a place to explore nature, build friendships, and grow in confidence. But for many Black, Indigenous, and People of Color youth, camp has not always been part of their community experience. To help change that, ESS Universal — HeavyDutyBunkBeds.com launched the ESS Cares Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Grant Program, sponsoring up to 10 campers each year with scholarships of up to $1,000.
Through this initiative, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color youth ages 13 to 17 are invited to experience the adventure, belonging, and personal growth that camp uniquely provides. The impact is already being felt in participating communities.

“This program has been a game changer for so many of our families, and we are grateful for you all at Heavy Duty Bunk Beds,” shared Caitlin Carroll, MSW, director of programs at Camp Holiday Trails. Her words reflect the heart of the program — breaking down barriers and opening doors for more young people to experience the transformative power of camp.
As one recipient, Olivier, expressed, “Camp taught me to just be myself . . . and how making a new friend can be a great thing.” His experience embodies what ESS Cares is all about: helping youth find confidence, connection, and community through camp.
