ACA and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) have continued their agreement that allows ACA-accredited® camps to use ASCAP licensed music without paying any licensing fees. ACA pays ASCAP one dollar per camp per year for all ASCAP licensed music. ACA-accredited camps are automatically included in the agreement with ASCAP. This agreement is for music used/sung on the camp premises.
The license does not authorize the broadcasting, telecasting, or transmission — by wire or otherwise (e.g., posting a camp video set to music on your camp's Web site, YouTube, or Facebook) — of renditions of musical compositions in the ASCAP catalog to persons outside of the premises, other than by means of a music-on-hold telephone system operated by licensee at the premises. You would need to obtain a separate license from the Internet Licensing Department. Their number is 212-621-6272.
For specific questions concerning which music and lyrics fall under ASCAP licensing, contact ACA's office administrator, 800-428-CAMP (2267).
ACA-Accredited Camps are automatically licensed by ASCAP! There are no additional fees.
Stage Productions
At this time, ACA does not have any type of agreement with Music Theatre International (MTI), and the ASCAP license rarely applies to these stage productions and/or their music. Learn more about stage production music licensing. Established in 1914, ASCAP is the world's largest performing rights organization, with more than 75,000 active composer, lyricist and music publisher members in the United States. ASCAP is the only performing rights organization in the United States whose board of directors is made up solely of writers and publishers, elected by the membership.
