Martinsville, IN (February 6, 2017): The American Camp Association® (ACA) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2017 National Awards. The award winners will be recognized at ACA’s National Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico from February 21-24.

MARTINSVILLE, IN: The American Camp Association Board of Directors has elected long-time camp director from Gainesville, Florida, Tony Oyenarte as Vice Chair.

Oyenarte began his career in education as a high school science and math teacher. He used his passion for youth development and the relationship between children and the outdoors to launch and sustain his twenty-year career in camp. He was the director of Camp Crystal Lake for sixteen summers, and currently is director of Camp Lochearn for Girls in Vermont.

MARTINSVILLE, IN – The American Camp Association (ACA) and the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism program of the University of Utah have received a $400,000 grant to identify factors within structured camp-leadership training that contribute to success in college and career.

“For generations, we have understood the benefits of summertime camp, but we have lacked the empirical evidence to demonstrate the what, why, and how of that impact,” ACA President and CEO Tom Rosenberg said.

Martinsville, IN (September 8, 2016):  Summer camp has ended and kids are back in school.  This begs the question: what’s next for summer camp?  Many camps are gearing up for their fall season of school groups and outdoor education.  These programs provide important partnerships with schools while allowing many kids to experience camp for the first time.  Additionally, the partnerships that camps make with schools perpetuate camps’ commitment to environmental and outdoor education throughout the entire year.

Indianapolis, IN (December 8, 2015) —The bipartisan Child Protection Improvements Act has been reintroduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Adam Schiff (CA-29) and Mike Bishop (MI-8); and in the Senate by Senator Charles Schumer (NY) and Senator Orrin Hatch (UT). The bill (S.2332 & H.R. 4073) closes a loophole in the federal law that prevents youth-serving organizations, such as camps, from gaining access to federal criminal background checks on employees and volunteers. The bill is enthusiastically supported by the American Camp Association® (ACA).
