Long days outdoors are central to the camp experience. Whether campers are hiking, swimming, playing sports, or exploring nature, they spend extended time in the sun — often more than during the school year.

This increased exposure raises the risk of sunburn, heat-related illness, dehydration, and long-term skin damage for campers and staff alike. Building sun-safe habits is an essential part of creating a healthy, supportive camp environment where everyone can participate fully and confidently.

To help camps strengthen their sun safety practices, Young Minds Inspired (YMI), in partnership with Kenvue, has developed Sun Safety for All—a free educational program designed specifically for youth-serving settings. The program includes ready-to-use activities, a poster, and take-home materials that teach practical sun protection strategies in ways that are engaging and age-appropriate.

These materials include step-by-step instructions, making them easy for staff to integrate into daily routines, orientation sessions, or outdoor programming.

A Dedicated Resource Hub for Camps

At Young Minds Inspired (YMI), our mission is simple: help educators, program leaders, and youth-serving organizations spark curiosity, creativity, and confidence in the kids they serve.

For more than 40 years, we have created free, standards-based educational resources in partnership with leading brands, nonprofits, and cultural institutions. Our materials are designed to be accessible, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and easy to implement — no formal teaching experience required.

Through this new collaboration as an educational partner to the American Camp Association® (ACA), we are expanding our support for the camp community by periodically offering free, ready-to-use learning materials — both new custom materials and curated selections from our archives — that camp professionals can use throughout the year that complement the unique strengths of camp environments.

The Sun Safety for All program, and future content releases, will be available as downloadable, reproducible PDFs at ymiclassroom.com/camps.

Camp directors and staff can visit this page at any time to browse activities, print materials, and incorporate them into their schedules.

Whether camps need a quiet-time activity, a rainy-day option, or a themed learning extension, the resources are designed to be flexible and easy to use. New materials will be added several times a year, including seasonal content and themed collections developed with our educational partners.

Looking Ahead

Camps play an essential role in helping young people build confidence, develop relationships, and explore their interests. YMI is honored to support this work and to collaborate with ACA in making high-quality educational resources more accessible to the camp community.

We look forward to continuing to provide free tools that help camps foster learning, creativity, and community — both during the summer and throughout the year.
