The purpose of the Exploratory Phase, or Phase 1 of the Impact Study, was to identify distinct and transferable outcomes of the camp experience among emerging adults who attended camp as a child. Specifically, the research team explored the outcomes of camp that are distinct from other developmental contexts, such as school and sports, how camp participants use those outcomes to navigate work and school, and what happened at camp to facilitate outcome development.

The ACA Camp Sites, Facilities, and Programs Report: 2017 is an invaluable resource for camps interested in examining their business operations around programs, grounds, and facilities. Data for this report were gathered in November of 2016 in a survey of 1,350 camp owners and operators who were randomly selected based on stratified sampling to represent the 2,426 ACA accredited camps at the time of data collection.

Nearly 80 ACA-accredited camps were selected from a stratified random sample to participate in the study by helping the research team recruit campers, former campers, staff, and parents to participate in Phases 1, 2, or three of the Youth Impact Study, the Spencer Foundation Study of Leadership Development at Camp, or the Staff Impact Study.
